Today is December 23rd, 2013, 35 days after the launch of my podcast.
Today was the official last day of my paying JOB, and the first day of my currently non-paying TOB. The Overwhelmed Brain is now my full-time job. My checking account shall dwindle as I work towards monetization of some sort.
Sure, it would seem the logical route would be to sponsor the podcast. The problem with that is that I cannot in good faith seek a sponsor at this time, mainly due to the fact that my numbers will be completely different after week 8 in New and Noteworthy. Since my downloads will drop considerably after N & N, I will need to start the process of tracking and recording numbers and stats all over again.
So, unless I have a huge subscriber base right now, sponsorship may be a few months or more away. So what does that mean for monetization of any sort? This is now serious. I have to choose a path to make money, or I cannot sustain the show.
So, my thoughts are to either create a paid, monthly subscription to a private group, where I give weekly, online, video group coaching calls (personal growth, breakthroughs, emotional blocks, stress, etc). Very similar to a mastermind, but focused on personal growth.
The second idea is to create hypnosis audios and sell them on iTunes. That may be a faster route.
Thirdly, I need to update my website for more friendly funneling to my affiliate products.
It may sound like I’m only doing this for the money. At first, that’s exactly why I was doing this, I won’t lie. I heard some crazy dollar amounts online, and I wanted a piece of the pie.
But now that I’ve done this for a few months, and realize the amount of hard work, energy, time and determination it takes to create just a single episode once a week (and recently a 5 day in a row episode I’m still working on), I want to do this because I enjoy it so much, and I want to be paid while doing something I love.
So now I feel good knowing that yes, I will be making money at all this stuff I’m creating. My incentive is watching the bank account dwindle. Very strong incentive indeed!
Let’s get to the data.
The current iTunes New and Noteworthy rankings:
- All of New and Noteworthy: #34 (#24 yesterday)
- Health New and Noteworthy: #3 (#1 yesterday)
- Business New and Noteworthy: #4 (#1 yesterday)
- Education New and Noteworthy: #3 (#1 yesterday)
Almost any new podcaster would be ecstatic with these rankings. But for some reason this evening, I was hoping to stay in number 1. I must be comfortable being in that number 1 spot! Just gives me more incentive to continue improving the show.
Here are the download numbers from libsyn:
- Dec 17: 863 downloads (2 days after new release)
- Dec 18: 754 downloads (3 days after new release)
- Dec 19: 786 downloads (4 days after new release)
- Dec 20: 585 downloads (5 days after new release)
- Dec 21: 667 downloads (6 days after new release)
- Dec 22: 1381 downloads (New release today)
- Dec 23: 1156 downloads (1 day after new release)
Total downloads to date: 21,039 (was 19,750 yesterday)
Wow, last I checked, I was reaching 20,000. But this time, the show went beyond 21K! So, next milestone achieved, plus a thousand more!
I guess people still like the show. And, this number doesn’t include the numbers that came in after midnight (it’s 1:29 AM on Dec 24 as I write this). The download numbers for the last hour and a half (past midnight) is 447. Not bad for being only an hour and a half into the new day!
So the real test will be over the Christmas holiday. Will the numbers go up or down? I’m not even going to speculate. I do know that during Thanksgiving they went down. Let’s see if it will be a merry Christmas, or if the numbers drop like snowflakes.
