Today is December 15th, 2013, 27 days after the launch of my podcast.
It has been a busy weekend. I recorded a total of about 8+ hours of interviews. With my Passion show, and especially my Holiday show coming up, I have a lot of editing and producing that needs to get done in record time.
Otherwise, this week is a giant day-job work week. Will be going in early, coming home later than normal, then doing nothing but editing shows. It will be the ultimate test in persistence, that’s for sure!
I received an amazing piece of fan mail today. I won’t get into specifics, but I love how she stated at the end: You never know who might be listening. What mystery… what suspense! It’s true, you never know who’s going to hear the show and perhaps someday reach out to you. There are only so many degrees of separation between you and everyone else on the planet. Eventually, the one door that changes everything will open, and your life will be forever altered.
Now, I’m not there yet! But I will admit, when I started this podcast, all I could see were dollar signs. Well, let me rephrase that: When I started, I wanted to be on “radio” (or any broadcasting platform), so people could hear my voice and listen to my opinions. Money or not, that was always a dream of mine. Then, when I saw the possible money that could be made from podcasting, my vision of being on the radio turned into a drive to make money.
This drive led me to work diligently almost every work night until I could no longer stay awake. It took my weekend days and turned them into 18 hour work marathons each day. I immersed (and am still immersing) myself into the online world of blogging, social media, masterminds, and of course, podcasting. All thinking about the money that will soon be arriving at my door in droves, with multiple armored cars hauling my riches.
That has shifted. When I get messages like the one I got today saying things like, ‘this is your best show yet. And that’s saying something, because every show has struck a chord with me’, I drop every ounce of my hunger for money and just sit there in awe. I am humbled, proud, in disbelief, and totally motivated, all at the same time. The direction is right. The path I’m on is true. The money may come, or it may not. But the meaning I get from the people who reach out to me to thank me, cannot be measured.
Just had to touch on that, as it’s been on my mind. Otherwise, I released a show this morning, and am looking forward to discovering the numbers together. Are you ready? I haven’t looked yet, so we can both be surprised.
Here are the current iTunes New and Noteworthy rankings:
- All of New and Noteworthy: #27 (#60 yesterday)
- Health New and Noteworthy: #1 (#11 yesterday)
- Business New and Noteworthy: #2 (#15 yesterday)
- Education New and Noteworthy: #1 (#9 yesterday)
Well, there you have it! This morning’s release help shoot me back up to the 1s and 2s. I may check in tonight to find out if the end of the day brings it back up to the top of All New and Noteworthy just for comparisons. Great to see though! Hitting more than one category in the number 1 spot is fantastic! Now I just gotta beat that Marketing Optimization with Alex Harris! He’s in number 1 right now for Business. Ha ha, I kid, because Alex totally deserves that spot. Great show, great guy.
Let’s check out the download numbers in libsyn:
- Dec 9: 694 downloads
- Dec 10: 615 downloads
- Dec 11: 733 downloads
- Dec 12: 656 downloads
- Dec 13: 726 downloads
- Dec 14: 576 downloads
- Dec 15: 970 (BOOM, and the day isn’t even over yet)
Total downloads to date: 13,142 (was 11,716 two days ago – 1426 increase in two days)
Wow! That really surprised me. It’s almost a 1000-download day! I will definitely be checking back in tonight to see if I’ve reached that pinnacle. You’re probably curious how many of the downloads are actually from this morning’s show. Approximately half of those. This means that even though it’s a new release, new content, people are still drawn to the old content (which either means the old content has staying power, or I’m still attracting new listeners to the show).
Libsyn has a fantastic tracking and stat system. You gotta check out this spike at the end of the downloads graph. This is what really surprised me:
Isn’t that something? Nice visual showing the trend over time. When I release my 30-day report, I’ll go into more detail.
The trend I see so far is with every new release, comes an even larger response to all my shows. The numbers compound, and the snowball is rolling faster and growing larger as it gains speed down the hill. Will be interesting to watch the downloads and rankings this week.
